Haiga are haiku with a difference: an image that expands the experience. Being a sensory pattern, the image is a percept added to the concept expressed by the haiku. The word “cloud,” for instance is very different from a picture of a cloud. So the image adds another dimension to the verbal haiku. I offer the following seven haiga as examples.
